According to a report by ABC's Diane Sawyer on Prime Time Live, African Americans are overcharged $150 million a year when buying new automobiles.

Car salesmen see a woman coming and they assume she is stupid about buying.A study published in the Harvard Law Review backs up that suspicion. In it, white and black, male and female test shoppers negotiated prices on 400 cars at 200 different showrooms in the Chicago area. The final offer from salesmen included a markup 40% higher for white women than white men on the same car. Black male testers got final offers at twice the markup, and black women were expected to pay three times the profit margin asked of white men.
